Forex Indicators: Transform Your Trading With Powerful Insights in 5 Minutes

You may have heard the term Forex indicators before, but what are these indicators, what are their benefits and disadvantages, and how do you use them alongside your analysis to achieve profits? Forex indicators are among the most important tools that you can use in this market due to their great importance and strength in determining the direction, momentum, and overbought & oversold..etc. We can get a lot of information from these indicators.

All you need to know about Forex indicators

1 – What are Forex indicators?

In the Forex market, there are several ways to predict whether the price will fall or rise. Among these methods is analyzing the pair using technical or fundamental analysis…etc. and It is also possible to use Forex indicators that may help you with the upcoming movement of the pair. These indicators differ from one indicator to another in terms of their mechanism of action and the data they give you (Signals).

For example, Forex indicators have been divided into several types so that you can distinguish each indicator and what it can do.

Types of Forex indicators

There are three types of Forex indicators, and Each type has its own way of dealing with it in terms of the signals that the indicator gives and how it helps you determine the General trend or entry and exit points, etc.

Trend

The first type is trend indicators. These Forex indicators work very well if the trend is clear. You will find their signals strange and somewhat random if the trend is unclear or sideways because these Forex indicators help you identify the trend and also determine the strength of the trend, whether it is weak or strong.

There are many trend indicators, and one of the most important and popular Forex indicators among traders is the moving average.

The moving average shows you the average price movement for a specific period. For example, if you set the moving average settings to 200, it will show you the average price movement for a period of 200 days. The moving average line can be used as support and resistance levels. If the price reaches them, there is a possibility that the price will rebound from the moving average line.

There are also many settings for the moving average. It is possible to add a moving average of 14 or 28, or even add 2 moving averages, the first one with settings of 14 and the second with settings of 28.

Oscillators

Oscillators are indicators that determine the momentum in the market and whether the market is fast or slow. They may also help you determine overbought and oversold, There are many good Forex indicators to determine the momentum and speed of price movement, but the most famous of these indicators are the RSI (Relative Strength Index) and MCAD.

The RSI indicator is used to determine overbought and oversold and to measure momentum as well. If the price reaches the 70 level, this indicates overbought, meaning that buyers have reached the peak of buying and they may close their buying positions and wait for the price to reach lower levels and buy again or take sell orders after closing their buying positions.

The same thing if the indicator reaches level 30, this level represents oversold and the price may rebound from this level.

MACD and RSI

The MACD indicator measures overbought and oversold conditions, but it can be relied upon as a more momentum-measuring indicator, as the MACD indicator shows the strength of buyers and sellers.

Oscillator indicators work well with sideways because they give signals of a reversal of the current movement. If there is a clear bullish/Bearish trend and the pair is moving rapidly, I do not recommend relying on these Forex indicators because their signals will be random and incorrect.

Volume indicators

Volume indicators are somewhat similar to Oscillators, but they provide an approximate trading volume. However, they do not give the real trading volume of Forex because Forex is a decentralized market, meaning that trading is done through banks and financial institutions, and there is no central exchange to execute buy and sell orders. Therefore, this type of indicator can be dispensed with in the Forex market.

But there is no harm if you want to learn more about these indicators and try them out if they fit your strategy.

One of the indicators that are considered Volatility indicators is Bollinger Bands, which measures momentum by measuring the variance in price movement around a moving average. When Bollinger Bands expands, it indicates increased volatility and time pressure, which can precede large price movements. But when the band gets tight, it indicates a calm market with low volatility, which can indicate a period of low volatility before a potential move.

What’s the difference between leading and lagging indicators?

Leading indicators such as RSI and MACD give you an indication of what will happen in the market Such as the divergence signal, the strength of buyers and sellers in the market, and the current momentum. and you can rely on these indicators as a helpful tool for entry.

As for lagging indicators, such as the moving average, it shows you what happened in the past. They reflect previous data that occurred on the chart and confirm the trend as well. It is possible to benefit from them if the price returns to the same important levels that it had visited before. Based on that, the appropriate decision is made whether to enter a trade or not.

2 – How Forex Indicators Work

Forex indicators do some complicated calculations for us and give us the final result we need in our trading. For example, the moving average calculates the moving average for a certain number of days. If we wanted to dispense with the moving average and do this calculation ourselves, it would be very difficult.

The MACD indicator calculates the strength of buyers and sellers based on the momentum and speed of the price movement. For example, if the price rises 50 pips within an hour and then rises 100 pips in the next hour, you will notice that on the indicator.

Indicators give us very valuable information and it is difficult to obtain this information without using indicators, but this does not negate the existence of some defects in indicators.

Disadvantages of Forex indicators

There are some drawbacks to the indicators. There is no perfect indicator and you must take this into account in your trading because relying entirely on the Forex indicator will not give you the results you expect because the indicators are considered an auxiliary Tool for the trader and not a basic factor for entering the deal.

However, some traders rely entirely on the indicator signals for entry and exit, but you must test the indicator for a good period first so that you get used to its signals and can distinguish between strong signals and weak signals.

Another disadvantage of Forex indicators is using them in a time frame different from its normal time frame. For example, the moving average may give you late signals in time frames that are not suitable for it. Each time frame has different moving average settings from the other. It is possible to use the moving average 200 on the hourly or 4-hour frame, but if you try to use it on the 5-minute frame, you will rarely get an entry or exit signal.

Multiple indicators

You can add more than one indicator to the platform to help you understand what is happening in the market more clearly. Many indicators complement each other and you can benefit from their signals together. For example, you can add the MACD indicator with the RSI, as these two indicators measure momentum.

In this way, you can avoid some of the disadvantages of indicators, because if the MACD gives you a signal and you do not find it on the RSI, then this signal is most likely incorrect, and in this case, it is preferable to wait until you find a signal on both of them at the same time.

News effect

One of the disadvantages of indicators is that they do not work well with news, and in fact, this also applies to most strategies because, at the time of news, you will not find any strategy that works at such a time. After all, the market is affected by the news movement more than any other factor.

Relying on indicators at the time of news is very dangerous. For example, if you see the price reaching the 200 moving average, you should not expect the price to rebound from this level at the time of the release of strong news. This is possible, but analyzing the news is much more important than paying attention to the indicators’ signals.

Just as indicators can be combined with technical analysis, they can also be combined with fundamental analysis. If there is a good area from which the pair is expected to rebound and the moving average meets this area, this is a good signal that gives more confidence to enter the trade. However, the last thing that must be confirmed before entering is the expected impact of the news, whether it supports this decision or not.

3 – Choosing the Right Forex Indicator

How to choose the right indicator for you? Choosing the right indicator that will help you in your analysis depends on your trading style and whether you are a scalper, day trader, or investor.

Because not all indicators are suitable for all trading methods. For example, if you are trading using ICT, you can add the MACD indicator so that you can find the divergence (SMT) that occurs between the indicator and the price movement, in addition to the SMT between the pairs.

If you are trading using technical analysis, you can add the 200 moving average starting from the hourly time frame to the daily. If the price reaches this level, this could be a good signal to enter if this level is consistent with support or resistance zones, etc.

How many indicators are in the market?

There are many indicators in the Forex market. Every period of time, new Forex indicators are added by programmers. The MT4 platform will have a small number of indicators because the programmers at MetaQuotes have stopped updating the platform, but they are focusing more on the MT5 platform, which is a more modern version and has many advantages, including multiple indicators. You will notice this more on the TradingView platform because it has many different indicators than MT4 and MT5.

Tradingview indicators

You can write the name of any Forex indicator you want in the Tradingview platform and you will find many indicators displayed by the Devolepors but I do not recommend adding many indicators to the chart because this will affect the accuracy of your analysis and you will be distracted by a large number of indicators, so try to make the matter easy and simple and add two indicators at most so that you can draw supports and resistances…etc.

Conclusion

In Forex, many indicators can help you in your trading journey, and there are types of indicators that differ in their signals and the way they are used. Some indicators are used to identify trends, such as the moving average, while others, such as the relative strength index (RSI) or the MACD, are used to provide buy or sell signals. Some Forex indicators work in advance to predict future movements, while others act as confirmation tools for current trends. Choosing the right indicator depends on your strategy and preferred trading style.
